Staff

John Ackerly, President
President John oversees the group's policies and programs and partnerships with other stakeholders in the residential renewable energy and energy efficiency community. He has 25 years of experience in advocacy and non-profit management with the International Campaign for Tibet, Public Citizen and the Center for Constitutional Rights. He earned a BA from Dartmouth College and a JD at the Washington College of Law and practiced civil rights law with a firm in Mississippi. John serves on several boards of directors, including the Biomass Thermal Energy Council and the Advisory Board of the Maryland Clean Energy Center. He is a certified by the National Fireplace Institute as a pellet stove technician. He lives in Maryland and heats his home with 2 cords of very dry wood.

Ken Adler, Senior Technology Advisor
Prior to joining the Alliance for Green Heat as a Senior Technology Advisor, Ken Adler work 30 years for the EPA developing and implementing environmental solutions to address mobile source air pollution, wetland loss, and agricultural pollution. For the last five years, Ken has also been President of Eagle Design LLC, a company that uses thermoelectric generators and innovative designs to generate electricity from wood stoves and gas fireplaces. Ken is also a Senior Contributing Scientist for the Environmental Defense Fund. He has a Masterís degree in Energy and Resources from University of California-Berkley and a BA from Hampshire College.

Melissa Bollman, Project Manager
Melissa graduated summa cum laude from McDaniel College in Westminster, MD, where she received a BA in Environmental Policy/Science and Philosophy. She has previously conducted research on Costa Rica's Payments for Environmental Services Program, which provides monetary compensation to local landowners who adopt sustainable forest management practices on their properties. Melissa worked as a Program Manager for the Alliance for Green Heat from 2011 - 2013 and provided support for the Wood Stove Design Challenge. Melissa recently received her Masters Degree in Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Delaware's Center for Energy and Environmental Policy (CEEP) in 2016. Her master's thesis discussed the politics surrounding the role of woody biomass energy in the Maryland Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). Melissa currently serves as a consultant for the Alliance for Green Heat and an instructor for an energy and environmental policy course at the University of Delaware.

Murali Krist, IT Technical Support
Murali Krist handles IT issues and is building out the website, producing e-newletters and troubleshooting. He has finished his Master's Degree in Information Technology from University of Northern Virginia, VA. He has extensive experience in web applications and software development.
