Popular Mechanics has teamed up with the Alliance for Green Heat to host a People's Choice Award for the Wood Stove Design Challenge.
The People's Choice award encourages public involvement and education in the contest to a cleaner, more efficient, affordable stove that appeals to more people than existing stoves do. This award is in addition to the grand prize and second-place awards that carry cash prizes and are given by the judges, based on rigorous testing at the Wood Stove Decathlon on the National Mall in Washington, DC this November.
"If next-generation woodstoves lack compelling benefits or are simply unappealing to consumers, then the innovation won't make much of an impact on the market," Popular Mechanics editor-in-chief Jim Meigs said. "Maybe the public will value user-friendliness most-or perhaps functionality, practicality, cost, automation or connectivity. Here's a chance for the public to help shape the next generation wood stove," Meigs added.
Head over to Popular Mechanics.com to see the stove photos, read the descriptions and cast your vote! Paper ballots will also be available at the Wood Stove Decathlon. Voting is limited to one per IP address.
