Incentives

Oregon had one of the most generous, innovative and complex tax credits in the US, but the legislature let the program expired in 2017. The program provided a state tax credit between $144 and $1,500 depending on the efficiency of the stove model, which had to have the efficiency listed on the list of EPA certified stoves. For more information.

Regulations

Oregon is one of two states in the U.S. that forbids the sale and installation of wood stoves or inserts that are not certified. For more information.

Oregon is the only state in the country (as of 2019) that requires that uncertified stoves be removed when a home is sold. For more information.

Oregon is one of a handful of states that has a statewide requirement that a permit must be obtained from the local building codes department before installing a new wood stove or insert. For more information.
