Wood Stove Change-out Rebate Program

Western Nevada

Status: Active as of August 2016 until funds are depleted

Eligible fuels: Wood (pre-1992) -> wood (certified); pellet, gas

Notable feature(s): Installation of uncertified stoves is prohibited by regulation.

Incentive Amounts
The Nevada Business Environmental Program at the University of Nevada, with funding support from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, and a US EPA-approved supplemental environmental project, is administering change-out programs that offer residents $400-$1,000 rebates to replace their installed and functioning pre-1992 wood stoves with new certified wood, pellet, or gas stoves. Participating dealers will also provide a $100 matching rebate to eligible applicants.  Homeowners within Carson City, Douglas County, and the winter burn code area of Washoe County (Reno-Sparks) are eligible for $600- $1000 rebates to replace their installed and functioning pre-1992 wood stoves with new certified wood, pellet, or gas stoves.  Homeowners in the Incline Village area of Lake Tahoe are eligible for a $400 rebate for replacing an uncertified, pre-1992 wood stove with a certified wood, pellet, or natural gas stove.

Program Duration
The programs are ongoing until funds are depleted.

Procedure
To receive a rebate, homeowners must submit a completed application to a participating dealer and purchase the certified heating appliance. The dealer will conduct a home inspection and schedule the change-out date. Once the homeowner obtains the necessary permits, the dealer will install the new device and recycle the old one.

Requirements
This program is only open to homeowners who have an installed pre-1992 wood stove. Fireplaces do not qualify. Wood stove inserts are eligible. Building permits are required. Douglas County offers a 50% discount on the building permit.
