Incentive Amounts
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) offers $1,500 incentives to New York State homeowners to replace an existing wood or pellet appliance with a 2.0 gram per hour or less pellet appliance in their primary residence. Income-qualified residents are eligible for $2,500 incentives. Homeowners also may be eligible for loan interest loans to help cover project costs. NYSERDA also offers homeowners up to $10,000 to replace an old indoor or outdoor wood boiler with a qualifying advanced cordwood boiler (see here for more details).
Program Duration
The program is ongoing until funds are depleted. It is scheduled to be held from 2015 to 2017. Priority is given to applicants changing to non-wood burning devices, have respiratory or cardiac conditions, are 65 years and older, or have children under the age of six.
Procedure
Interested homeowners must select a participating contractor to perform the replacement and recycling of the old device. The participating contractor conducts a pre-qualifying visit and submit the application on the homeowner’s behalf.
Requirements
Participation is open only to homeowners without access to natural gas. Self-installation is prohibited. Bulk pellets must be stored outside the home.
